Get To Know Montana City Meats

BIO

We started Montana City Meats in the Fall of 2002 with a passion for raising our own locally grown animals, and to grow our own garden. Our priority has been to get away from processed foods, and store bought meat full of hormones and treated with irradiation techniques, red-dye injections, sodium injections, and gas packaging with carbon monoxide (Mother Earth News, June/July 2007, "Shocking News About Meat").

The Founder and CEO, Garry Wheelock, developed severe food allergies between 1994-2002, that would result in severe anaphylactic reactions. Every year he would usually have 2-3 severe episodes that would result in impatient/overnight emergency room visits. After reading book after book to attempt to figure out 'why' these reactions were happening, and even going to the extent of seeking a professional Allergist for help, it was determined that the issues were caused due to different food allergies, and chemicals in processed foods (including meat & vegetables).

It's very difficult to develop a way of life that you completely rid yourself of processed foods, and grow your own food, but it is the healthiest way of life. We observe the fast food industry, over the past 60 years, that pushes 'convenience' over health. Now, over the past several decades, we see vividly the consequences of obesity in children and adults that lead to numerous types of different diseases that include diabetes, heart disease, and cancer just to name a few.

Since 1984, Garry Wheelock's career revolved around the IT industry, and has 27+ years as a Software Engineer. After building Montana City Meats to a sound business, he left his State job in 2010 to focus on promoting local sustainable farming, living, and growing.
